What We’re Looking For…

We’re looking for essays offering unique, innovative, and even subversive commentary on culture, art, science, and society. We want commentary that opens our awareness to something we’ve overlooked (and WHY we’ve overlooked it), a revelation of new insights about ourselves framed in the media (comics, film, novels, games, etc.) by which we define and identify ourselves.

Vex Mosaic Essay Formats

There are three types of essay content in the VEX MOSAIC publishing framework: Web, Featured, and Premium

Web Content (1,000 to 2,000 words)

Web Content essays are published through the VEX MOSAIC website and are free to the public. They might be used in the VEX MOSAIC podcast and YouTube channel.

Web Essay contributors will receive full accreditation on the VEX MOSAIC website and will appear in the Contributors listing with a link to the blog or webpage of their choice.

Featured Content (1,000 to 2,000 words)

Featured Content essays are showcased prominently on the VEX MOSAIC website and are free to the public. They are the primary content for the VEX MOSAIC podcast and provide the foundation for video productions released through the VEX MOSAIC YouTube channel.

Featured Essay contributors will be paid .03 cents per word for original content or .01 per word for reprints, receive full accreditation on the VEX MOSAIC website and will appear in the Contributors listing with a link to the blog or webpage of their choice.

Premium Content (2,000 to 4,000 words)

Premium Content essays are considered exclusive content. Most are delivered to our Patreon Subscribers and will be the core content of our Quarterly and Annual publications (e-book and audiobook formats). A few may be podcast or produced as a YouTube video to promote the magazine.

Premium Essay contributors will receive full accreditation on the VEX MOSAIC website and will appear in the Contributors listing with a link to the blog or webpage of their choice.

Premium Essay contributors also have two compensation options:

1) .05 cents per word

2) Revenue Share. For each distribution silo (Patreon, e-book, audiobook), contributors will share 80% of realized revenue after distribution fees are met.

For example: A contributor’s Premium Essay is one of the four essays released in June’s Patreon feed. Total subscription income is $500. Patreon takes 8% ($40), leaving $460 in realized revenue. 80% of that ($368) is divided by all contributing writers, resulting in payouts of $92 ($368/4) to each revenue-share contributor. The same calculations apply to e-book and audiobook revenue share distributions.

The editorial staff will determine the designation and placement of all essay submissions.
